The Sounds continue their eight-day, nine-game homestand tonight as they host the Oklahoma City RedHawks at Greer Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05, with pregame coverage on 102.5 The Game beginning at 6:50. It’s Mike Fiers (6-1, 1.59) for the Sounds against David Martinez (4-2, 3.94).
Tonight’s interview is with former Sounds player and Sounds manager Leon Roberts, who now serves as hitting coach for OKC in the Astros organization. Roberts played parts of 11 years in the major leagues for several teams from ’74-’84, and played in 97 games for the Sounds in 1985. After also serving as interim manager for seven games that year, he then managed the Sounds full-time in 1986. Roberts discusses returning to 37-year-old Greer Stadium now, his time as a Sounds player when Greer was just seven years old, how the ballpark looked in the 80s, and playing with and managing guys like Bob Mevlin. now the A’s manager, and Brian Harper, now the Iowa Cubs hitting coach, and his relationship with current Sounds manager Rick Sweet.
