The Sounds are in Des Moines, Iowa, right now playing a six-game, four-day series against the Iowa Cubs. It’s a six-game set because the clubs were rained out (and “colded out”) twice back in April. One of the guys I interviewed back then was Taylor Green, who is now with the Brewers. As I was walking back to the hotel the other night I was thinking back to my interview with Green, and something jumped into my brain. In that interview I remember asking Green about his call-up last year from Nashville to Milwaukee and the potential challenge of going from an everyday role at Triple-A to a back-up, pinch-hitting role in the major leagues. And without hesitation, Green commented that it wasn’t a major adjustment for him because he typically gets deep into counts and feels he can battle a pitcher long enough to get a handle on what the pitcher has.
Well, Green knows his game and that ability to work a pitcher without fear of hitting with two strikes. It’s what helped him earn a spot on the Brewers’ NLCS roster last post-season, and it’s what helped him join a rare group in Brewers history. Both of Green’s homers as a Brewer this year — his first two as a major leaguer — have come in a pinch-hitting role. He becomes just the fourth Brewer ever to have pinch-hit homers for their first two major league homers (also Bob Hansen ’74, Trent Durrington ’04, and former Sound Prince Fielder ’05).
This is Green’s first homer:
And this is his second homer.
Keep it going, Taylor!
Thanks for listening! (On the Air…and Off)
