Greetings from Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix, the Spring Training home of the Sounds’ parent club Milwaukee Brewers. Clubhouse access was limited at big league camp this morning because of a team meeting, but in a clubhouse filled with former Sounds and future Sounds, I was able to catch up with reliever Donovan Hand (@DonovanHand). “Everyday Don” and “Utility Pitcher” are a couple of nicknames he developed during his solid 2012 season, which was spent entirely in Nashville and filled with success as a spot starter, long reliever and late-inning man. With Opening Day for both the Brewers and the Sounds fast approaching, Hand, a non-roster invitee to Brewers camp (which means he’s not on the club’s 40-man roster), still has a chance to claim a bullpen spot for the Brewers. If not, he’ll be in Nashville. Either way, he is having a terrific spring and opening a lot of eyes among Brewers coaches and executives.
Thanks for listening! (On the Air…and Off)
