As I type this, we are 56 days away from Opening Day — Thursday, April 4, 7:05 against the New Orleans Zephyrs. While the Opening Day roster is far from set at this point, we do know some of the guys who certainly will NOT be on the Sounds’ roster, though they played for the club just last season.
As of right now, a total of 16 players who played for the Sounds at some point last season have signed elsewhere for 2013. They are:
Jordan Brown
Batted .306 with eight homers and 37 RBIs in 104 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Marlins … Could face the Sounds on Opening Night, as Brown may be playing for the New Orleans Zephyrs
Brooks Conrad
Batted .405 with 10 homers and 28 RBIs in 21 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Hanshin Tigers in Japan
Fautino De Los Santos
Went 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 11 games for the Sounds last season … Was claimed off waivers this week by the Padres after being designated for assignment by Milwaukee following their signing of Alex Gonzalez
Eric Farris
Batted .286 with seven homers, 31 RBIs and 35 stolen bases in 131 games for the Sounds last season … Was selected by the Mariners this past December in the annual Rule 5 Draft … Could face the Sounds this year if he’s with the Tacoma Rainiers, who host Nashville May 20-23
Andy Gonzalez
Batted .221 with eight homers and 38 RBIs in 87 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the White Sox, whose Triple-A affiliate, Charlotte (NC), plays in the International League …
Travis Ishikawa
Batted .222 with no homers and five RBIs in a six-game rehab assignment with the Sounds last season … Signed with the Orioles, who also picked up former Sound Zack Braddock, who was on the Sounds’ roster briefly last year but never pitched in a game
Cesar Izturis
Went 1-for-12 in a four-game rehab assignment with the Sounds last season … Signed with the Reds, whose Triple-A affiliate, Louisville (KY), plays in the International League
Jason Jaramillo
Batted .188 with two homers and 12 RBIs in 41 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Astros … Could face the Sounds several times this year if he’s with the Oklahoma City RedHawks …
Edwin Maysonet
Batted .208 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 69 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Cubs … Could face the Sounds several times this year if he’s with the Iowa Cubs
Mike McClendon
Went 4-3 with a 4.19 ERA and five saves in 33 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Rockies … Could face the Sounds this year if he’s with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, who host the Sounds August 8-11
Corey Patterson
Batted .251 with 10 homers, 39 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 117 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Mets … Could face the Sounds this year if he’s with the Las Vegas 51s, the Mets’ new Triple-A affiliate (formerly Buffalo in the International League), who come to Music City July 30-August 2
Juan Perez
Went 4-2 with a 3.60 ERA in 38 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Blue Jays, whose Triple-A affiliate, Buffalo (NY), plays in the International League
Humberto Quintero
Batted .263 with one homer and 12 RBIs in 25 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Phillies, whose Triple-A affiliate, Lehigh Valley (PA), plays in the International League
Amaury Rivas
Went 5-8 with a 5.24 ERA in 50 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Marlins … Could face the Sounds on Opening Night, as he, like Jordan Brown, may be playing for the New Orleans Zephyrs
Mitch Stetter
Went 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA in 10 games for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Angels … Could face the Sounds this year if he’s with the Salt Lake City Bees, who host the Sounds May 16-19
Claudio Vargas
Went 7-1 with a 3.69 ERA in 20 starts for the Sounds last season … Signed with the Blue Jays, whose Triple-A affiliate, Buffalo (NY), plays in the International League
